How to analyze Oracle Solaris OS crash dump


In this topic I will provide information how to generate Oracle Solaris OS crash dump report using Solaris Crash Analyzer Tool.


Here I will provide information how to find out root cause of Oracle Solaris OS crash dump reboot or hung up.

If your system properly installed and configured according EIS (Enterprise Installation Standard) – then you dump

device must be configured as separated raw disk and must have size at least more than installed physical memory

on the server. In most system the dump device is the same swap device. If your system is frame based and installed memory

is more than 320GB ( SAS disk) – then you need assign to the system dedicated dump device no less thane size of physical

memory. Otherwise – in time when system will go to crash dump, the memory state will fully dumped to the dump device

and you will lose last memory snapshot to make root cause analyze of system crash.

new release of dns servers for solaris 10 os i386/spac platform


 

 

I’m glad to announce that the new DNS server with my custom developing and tuning bug-fixing is finally released for Oracle/Sun Solaris 10 i386 and sparc platform. This application is totally 64bit binary compiled specially for Solaris OS native environment and doesn’t required extra C/C++ library packages as from SunFreeWare.com (GnuCC).

I make 2 Solaris install packages stream files for I386/x64 and sparcv9 platform. All required startup scripts and system files included in this packages. This DNS server already was successfully tested on Enterprise class based ISP system and report high performance in response and stable for DoS attacks.

Solaris Zones migration with ZFS


Here I will demonstrate how to migrate a Solaris Zone running
on T5220 server to a new T5220 server using ZFS as file system for
this Zone.

Solaris Zones provide a new isolation primitive for the Solaris OS,
which is secure, flexible, scalable and lightweight. Virtualized OS
services look like different Solaris instances. Together with the
existing Solaris Resource management framework, Solaris Zones forms the
basis of Solaris Containers.
